Most of us aren’t starting businesses with a social media manager, copywriter, video editor, virtual assistant, and marketing strategist handling the backend work. It’s just you, balancing a full-time job, raising kids, managing life, and trying to build something meaningful. So if you’ve ever wondered, is using AI cheating, the real question is—cheating who?
If using AI, templates, or automation helps you stay sane and get things done, use it. You are not less of a business owner because you’re smart enough to make things easier on yourself. That’s called working smarter, not harder.
Why AI Doesn’t Make You Inauthentic
People love to shame new business owners for using AI, yet they don’t think twice about businesses hiring copywriters, outsourcing content creation, or using assistants to handle emails. The only real difference is affordability.
Most new business owners can’t afford a full team, and that’s okay. That doesn’t make them frauds. AI is simply a tool that allows solo entrepreneurs to delegate certain tasks without the overhead of hiring multiple people. If you were making seven figures, you’d likely have a team managing these things. But since that’s not where you are yet, using AI to streamline your workflow is no different than hiring an assistant.
This brings us back to the question: Is using AI cheating? If AI is just another tool that supports your business in the same way a team would, then the answer is no. The key is in how you use it. AI should never replace personal touch, real connection, or creative expression.
The key is ensuring AI supports your work without overtaking it. That means reviewing, refining, and adding your unique voice before anything goes out into the world. AI doesn’t have your lived experience, your insights, or your energy so it can only assist. You’re still the one making the final decisions and putting your stamp on your business.

How I Use AI to Save Time Without Losing My Voice
AI isn’t about cutting corners, it’s about protecting your time and energy so you can focus on what actually moves your business forward. And let’s be honest—if using AI were cheating, then every business hiring a team to handle copywriting, customer service, or social media would also be considered cheating.
In my own business, AI has become an essential tool that allows me to get more done while maintaining the quality and authenticity of my work.
Podcast Editing
One of the biggest ways I use AI is for podcast editing. Before AI, I was manually removing background noise, cutting out heavy breaths, and ensuring my audio sounded clean. It was exhausting and took hours. Now, an AI-powered program runs the first edit for me in minutes. It removes distractions while keeping my voice clear and natural.
I still listen to the final product (word for word) and make tweaks, but AI eliminates the tedious work so I can spend more time creating instead of editing.
Business Planning
Another way I integrate AI into my business is through business planning. Mapping out launches, scheduling vacations, and setting goals used to take an entire day or more of refining, shifting dates, and adjusting plans. Now, I tell AI my goals, how I like to structure my time, when I may want to launch something, and when I want vacations.
Once I input my perimeters, AI generates a full-year plan broken down per quarter, giving me a solid structure to refine in a fraction of the time. Is using AI cheating if it allows me to be more strategic, stay organized, and focus on my vision? Or is it just an efficient way to scale my business?
Thought Partner
AI has also become a thought partner when it comes to brainstorming. In a business with team members, collaboration happens naturally, ideas are thrown out, refined, and expanded upon. But when you’re a solo entrepreneur, it’s just you. AI helps fill that gap by allowing me to brain dump ideas and get structured feedback.
There are times when I’m overflowing with inspiration, and I’ll record a voice note spilling out everything I’m thinking. Sometimes I talk for an hour or more, just letting ideas flow. Then, I enter that recording into AI, and it organizes my thoughts, highlights different topics, and even asks for clarification on areas that might be confusing.
This process doesn’t replace my creativity—it helps me refine it. Instead of sifting through an hour of unstructured thoughts, I get an organized breakdown of what I was trying to express, making it easier to turn those ideas into blogs, podcast episodes, or new offers.

How to Use AI Ethically in Your Business
There’s a difference between using AI as a support tool and relying on it to run your entire business. Ethical AI use is about leveraging it where it makes sense while maintaining control over your brand, messaging, and relationships.
One of the most important aspects of ethical AI use is knowing what tasks AI should handle and what should remain entirely human-led. AI is great for automating repetitive tasks like drafting content outlines, repurposing old content, summarizing information, or formatting posts for different platforms. These are tasks that don’t require deep personalization but can save hours of time when automated.
However, AI should never be a complete replacement for creative work. The soul of your business, your unique voice, your storytelling, your personal experiences, cannot be replicated by AI. While AI can assist in organizing and refining ideas, your presence in your content is what builds trust with your audience. This means reviewing every piece of AI-generated work, making adjustments, and ensuring that everything reflects your perspective, values, and brand voice.
It’s also important to ensure AI isn’t replacing human connection in your business. Automation can help streamline responses, but real relationships with clients, customers, and followers require personal engagement. AI can suggest responses to messages, but it can’t build genuine relationships for you. Make sure AI supports efficiency without removing the personal touch that makes your brand stand out.
